Artist in Residence Pančevo: Alone Together

Remix Comix residency entitled “Alone Together” and hosted by Komunikart Pančevo took place from 10th October to 24th October 2023.

As part of the “Remix Comix: Comics for Heritage” project in Pančevo, four video interviews were recorded with members of the older generations: Miroslav Pupić Mirčica, Ivan Rakidžić, Olgica Simić, and Branko Purić, of whom the last two interviewed people now reside in a nursing home in Pančevo. The main theme of these interviews is how the older residents of Pančevo used to entertain themselves when they were young, or how they participated in the cultural life of Pančevo. Did they contribute to the creation of the cultural scene in Pančevo and the entertainment during the 1950s, 1960s, or 1970s of the last century?

Through the conversation, the interviewees remembered the pleasure they experienced during their youth, which involved singing, dancing, sports, events, national holiday celebrations, theater, cinema, strolls on the promenade, visits to cafes, parks, and streets. These were collective gatherings in public and private spaces.

The exhibition, titled “Alone Together,” held at four locations in Pančevo, starting on 19th October, 2PM, featured original comics by Lidija Krnjajić, Lucie Lučanska, Vuk Palibrk, and Andrej Štular, inspired by the stories from the interviews, and developed in collaboration with the exhibition curators Maida Gruden and Andrija Stojanović. The comics were part of artistic installations placed at locations that have represented and continue to represent meeting places for the youth – “Uroš Predić” Gymnasium, the Cultural Center of Pančevo, the Youth Center of Pančevo, and the People’s Garden.
